CHIEF Justice Sir Salamo Injia says the Public Solicitor’s Office is important because it provides legal aid to people who cannot afford it.
He was speaking during the swearing in of Leslie Mamu as the new public solicitor. “It is the office that provides free legal aid to the people of PNG who cannot afford legal aid,” he said.
Sir Salamo said Mamu had served in the Office of the Public Solicitor for quite some time and his experience there had equipped him with the skills needed to face the challenges ahead.
Mamu signed the “Declaration of Loyalty” and the “Declaration of Office” documents before Sir Salamo and Deputy Public Solicitor Luke Siminji.
“I understand the role of the office as the voice of the people and I look forward to serving the people of Papua New Guinea accordingly,” Mamu said.
