FOR its movie of the month, the Alliance Française de Port Moresby is showing tonight the film about a girl with a suppressed childhood and as a result resorts to a world of fantasy.

The movie Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain (The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain) tells the story of Amélie, a girl whose childhood was suppressed by her father’s mistaken concerns of a heart defect.

With these concerns Amélie gets hardly any real life contact with others.

This leads Amélie to resort to her own fantastical world and dreams of love and beauty. She later on becomes a young woman and moves to the central part of Paris as a waitress.

After finding a lost treasure belonging to the former occupant of her apartment, she decides to return it to him. Upon his reaction and his new found perspective – she decides to devote her life to the people around her.

The movie is in French but English subtitles are provided.

It will be shown tonight at 6.30pm at the Ela Beach Hotel.

Entrance is free to all.
