Funding issues affect commission

LACK of funding and the effects of the coronavirus pandemic have resulted in the Constitutional and Law Reform Commission not being able to execute its underlying law programme, an official says.
Commission secretary Dr Mange Matui told The National that the underlying law was important because it would help develop “Papua New Guinea Ways” using customs and traditions.
“We cannot take back PNG without looking at our own systems, rules and regulations and see what works for us and adapt into the formal systems,” he said.
“The only way is by recording our customs, finding out what has worked for us and utilise that custom to develop our society; taking back PNG starts with developing the underlying law.”
