Funds on the way for Tesas, Help

ACTING HIGHER Education secretary Dr Francis Hualopmomi says higher learning institutions will soon receive their tertiary education scholarship assistant scheme (Tesas) and higher education loan programme (Help) funds.
“The delay in disbursement of the funds is due to the process of cheque clearance by the Ombudsman Commission (OC),” he said.
“All our cheques have to be cleared by the Ombudsman Commission due to the General Election 2022 period.”
Hualopmomi said the Government had allocated K65.1 million for Help this year, which, K23 million had been released by the Treasury Department.
“ Treasury has also released K18.8 million for Tesas and the disbursement is being processed,” he said.
“I am writing to the OC to speed up the process because its purpose is to serve higher learning institutions and is not for election-related purposes.”
He said all universities and other higher education institutions recognised by the department would receive their respective allocations.
Hualopmomi said the remaining balance for Help would be paid to institutions before December.
