PM’s envoy in Portugal for oceans conference

THE Prime Minister’s special envoy and his delegation have arrived in Lisbon, Portugal, for the second United Nations ocean’s conference which began on Monday and will end on Friday.
Secretary for the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, Dr Eric Kwa said he was humbled to be appointed by Prime Minister James Marape, as his special envoy, to represent the country.
“As the chairman of the National Oceans Committee, I am well versed with the oceans issues and the agendas that are to be presented at the conference,” he said.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s media unit, the First UN oceans conference was held in 2017 in New York, however, the PNG oceans policy was passed and implemented in 2020.
In this second oceans conference, PNG was expected to discuss the recently approved global climate fund component.
