MOROBE Deputy Governor Morokoi Gaiwata has clarified that his statement to the women at the haus krai in Lae targeted parents who should be responsible at home.

Gaiwata drew the ire of women at the Eriku Oval during the national haus krai that rape could be stopped if women dressed more modestly and didn’t wear shots.

“This is a national issue that I stood in front of women, sympathise with them and shed tears before receiving the petition on behalf of Governor Kelly Naru,” he said.

“The formation of my words into messages was plain clear that as a government, we will by all means work together for a better solution.”

He said based on the constitutional pillar to protect and promote Papua New Guinea ways and culture, various regions have various principles that guide the code of conduct and dress for men and women, whether it be in public or at home.

“We can never be lured by foreign cultures and influences like mobile phones, short mini tops, skirts, blouses, tight jeans and whatever to dress in a way that will tease men or arousing sexual lust.

“I therefore assured not only women but men who were there that parents need to play their parental roles at home as much as they can to educate girls to dress in a manner that will never provoke sexual desires from perpetrators,” Gaiwata said.
