PACIFIC Games ambassador Kristine Seko, pictured, claimed the National Amateur Golf Championship held over the Easter weekend at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club.

“It was a great thrill winning for me as my hope was to score better over the four-day event, and I felt I’ve gave my best by playing solid and consistent enough which is all I want as a golfer in the major tournament,’’ Seko said.

“For me this win is extra special as a Games ambassador and it is my third consecutive win at the National Amateur Championships.”

It has been a great honour for the Madang woman as she looks to the Games in July and eyes a medal on her home course — the Royal Port Moresby Golf Course.

Overall, it was a successful tournament enjoyed by all who participated.  The national amateur titles was one of the tournaments being used to select its Pacific Games squad.

The next major tournament will be the Morobe Open hosted by Lae Golf Club from April 23-26, followed by the PNG Open back at Royal Port Moresby Golf Club from April 3- to May 3.

All PNG squad members are expected to compete.

The results of these tournaments will determine the final squad of five men and five women for the Games.

Port Moresby-based squad members have been training six days a week. With all eyes are on Pacific Games, golf promises to be an exciting competition at the Royal Port Moresby club with the national team hoping to perform in front of their home crowd.
