A FEMALE magistrate has raised security concerns regarding her safety after a group of men damaged the fence and entered her home on Saturday night at the Toliken Circuit in Gerehu stage 6 suburb of Port Moresby.
Tracy Ganai’s premises were broken into by some youths whom she had earlier reported to the police for drinking using loud music and disturbing the neighbourhood.
The suspects cut the fence, went inside her home and stole a large cooler.
“My biggest concern is security for magistrates,” Ganai told The National yesterday.
She said most of what the magistrates did was reported in the media every day with their names. And their safety was a concern.
“We don’t want people to feel that they can break the law and get away so we try to at least talk to them and correct them,” Ganai said.
“We asked them to keep the volume down, they don’t listen so we get the cops to come and talk to them and they do this to us.
“There were loud noises and music coming from our neighbors three houses away between 8-9am on Saturday.
“They had some drinking going on and they were playing loud music. The music was coming from a woofer which went on until midnight.”
She and her family drove to Sogeri but when they returned around 6pm the drinking and noise were still going.
She told her husband David to report the matter to the police.
She said it was the third time such incident was reported to the police and their neighbours shared the same sentiments.
Ganai called the Boroko police station. An officer was sent to investigate their complaint.
“I showed him the house, he went in and warned them but straight after he left the woofer went on again,” she said.
They reported the matter to  Gerehu police station. When the police officers came the second time, all the drunkards had left.
The family left the house around 7pm and when they returned around 11pm, they found the fence of their house cut and the esky missing.  They reported the matter to the Gerehu police.
