THE Papua New Guinea Under 19 Garamuts will go down straight to business next month after having the privilege to qualify from improved and outstanding performances during their lead-up matches this year.
Papua New Guinea’s young and most successful cricket team – the U19 Garamuts, will be looking to improve their placing under PNG’s newly-appointed national coaching director Andy Bichel.
Firstly, with the Garamuts’ Under 19 squad, their games begin with warm-up fixtures on Jan 11 and 12 against England followed by the United States.
Currently, the Garamuts are in 13th placing and should be a better side up against the US, who are 15th, while the tough fixture against the Englishmen, who are ranked 5th, should give them the confidence of playing Pakistan (4th), Bangladesh (8th) and the West Indies (9th) in their Group D matches.
The Garamuts will begin their contest on Jan 16 against Bangladesh, followed by Pakistan on Jan 18.
Their final group match against the West Indies will be played on Jan 19 to qualify for the finals starting on Jan 23.
Outstanding performances and experience from Heni Siaka and Tony Ura with the bat during the Garamuts’ qualifying campaign should be prevalent in the competition.
Also, there is a lot of anticipation for medium pacer and captain John Reva with fellow bowlers Raymond Haoda and Charles Amini Jr, who will be the player to watch with his tough deliveries for facing batsmen.
PNG’s campaign for the World Cup next month looks exceptional after a very good year of tremendous success and improvement on the world stage.
