Gavians win inter-house sports carnival

MALALA Secondary School in the Madang hosted their inter-house sports carnival in their grounds over the weekend.
According to school principal John Tomokai, students took part in soccer, touch, basketball, netball and volleyball.
Tomokai said it was the students who came up with the initiative for the carnival which not only promoted sport within the school but unity among the students and staff.
“We are trying to promote sports as an activity that will get students and staff united and work with the community in the province,” Tomokai said.
“It was the students’ initiative and we were very supportive of it.”
In the soccer competition, Scorpions beat Mighty Mites 1-0 from a penalty; in touch, Dolphins defeated the Mighty Mites 8-0.
In basketball, the Scorpions stung the Gavians 20-18 in an exciting tussle.
In women’s volleyball, the Gavians soared past the Dolphins beating them two sets to one, while in the men’s volleyball, Scorpions stung the Gavians 3-2.
The Gavians house were declared the overall winners of the inter house carnival, with 400 points, followed by Scorpions on 343 pts, Mites on 310 pts and Dolphins in fourth place with 300 pts.
