GAZELLE Team One registered their first win of the season in the Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association with a 28-8 victory against Chebu in round three on Saturday.
Following a slow start to their two opening matches, Gazelle regained their composure after scoring five runs in the first innings to set the pace with Chebu unable to respond.
Gazelle coach Jerry Albert said it was a solid performance by his side to get their first win with the team optimistic about improving their position on the ladder.
“This was good win,” he said.
“I think we really dug deep and focused on team work and applying all our skills from training.
“After all this time off, we weren’t able to have regular training and competition.
“My players are talented.
“But we just needed time and they came out on top in this game.
“The new format is really good because it helps the players to think and play and that’s really what the game is about.
“With the regular format, we’re just catching, hitting and throwing the ball.
“But now, we’re having the bases loaded to pick up the pace of the game.”
Albert said it was early in the season and teams were yet to find their footing in the new format with batting a priority for teams.
Meanwhile, Aviat Jets continued their good start to the season with a 15-12 win over Wantoks at the Bisini Diamonds.
