GAZELLE was named the most dominant of Team East New Britain’s districts at last year’s PNG Games.

The district provided the bulk of Team ENB members from its five local level governments (LLG) and was a testament to its organisation in sports and administration.

According to the Gazelle district assistant sports coordinator Alois Kins, the five LLGs: Central Gazelle, Lassul Bay, Inland Baining, Tomadir and Reimber-Livuan had prepared well in advance for the Games, which allowed them to supply most members to the contingent.

Kins said in preparation for next year’s PNG Games in Lae, Central Gazelle, Tomadir and Reimber-Livuan were currently running competitions in rugby league 9s, volleyball, netball and soccer, while Lassul Bay and Inland Baining were next on the list.

“The reason is to revive the codes within the district for greater participation and talent identification for future PNG Games,” Kins said.

Certified games officials and referees have been engaged and further coaching clinics will be held.

Arrangements have also been made with the Brian Bell in the province to order necessary equipment for kickboxing.

He said the use of facilities for  softball, darts and basketball had received the nod and were awaiting further upgrading work to be done.

Kins said four more weekends remained for the 9s finals to be followed by the regular league competition in the premier and under-19 divisions.
