PAPUA New Guinea Kumul Edene Gebbie is set to take the field for Dona Minas in their Koiari Rugby League A-Grade grand final against the Sirinumu Pukpuks on Sunday.
Minas captain and former Kumul Josiah Abavu said the inclusion of Gebbie and fellow Lae Tiger Sani Wabo had boosted the morale of the side this season. “It’s been a tough season with the Covid-19 lockdown,” the former Port Moresby Viper said.
“But we’ve been eager to compete since the start of the season and now we’re in the grand final.
“Edene has been with us for most of the season and his presence in the league this year has boosted our younger players.
“They all look up to Edene and want to reach the highest level like him. It’s going to be a great game and we know that the Pukpuks are not going to shy away from the challenge.
“We’re ready to put in a strong performance and hopefully get the win.”
Pukpuks captain Kidu Max said his men were keen to give Minas a run for their money.
“It has been a rollercoaster season for us,” he said.
“But we’ve hit our straps at the right time of the season and we’re aiming for a win.
“Minas have a great side with Edene and we’re looking forward to playing against them because you can only know how good you are when you play against the best.”
Meanwhile, the Under-20 grand final will feature Minas and Rux Tigers with kick-off scheduled for 1pm.

  • Forget him..as id he played for the Central Dabaris. It’s your right to play for any Digicel team but you were full time off the paddock. That sounds the bells that you were not needed by Lae Snax Tigers..now where are ..back to your roots..next time be wise..play for your home team and teach local talents.
