Primary school receives sporting kits

TRUKAI industries is piloting sports kit donation drive among Port Moresby schools in an effort to promote healthy living at an early age.
They have already given 60 Trukai-branded sports balls each to Gerehu Secondary, Don Bosco Technical, St Joseph, Coronation and Bavaroko.
Coronation yesterday received 60 balls which will cater for rugby, soccer, volleyball and netball.
Coronation sports master Joe Lai said they did not have enough sports gear to cater for their 3,000-plus students.
“Most times, the students bring their own balls to school for sports,” he said.
“This (donation) will be used for sports.”
Lai thanked Trukai for the donation, adding that the balls would be used next year with this year approaching its end.
He said despite Covid-19 affecting their lessons in physical education, the school was in need of sporting gear.
“Our supplies are between 10 to 15 years old and at times, we have had to ask students to bring in their own sports balls and equipment to be used for classes,” Lai said.
“So this donation will go a long way to help the students.”
Trukai events manager Christine Miria said: “The donation is part of our community-based relationship to give back, it falls under our healthy eating and healthy living platforms.”
The company will visit Birdwing Independent School, Koroboro-East Boroko, Caritas Technical Secondary, Port Moresby Grammar and Port Moresby International for the drive.
