PAPUA New Guinea international and Genesis skipper Yvonne Gabong netted six goals to help her side beat Amoana 8-0 in round three of the Women’s National Soccer League in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Genesis and Poro, who crushed Morobe Tulip (10-0) and Pacific Gardens (8-0), continued their perfect starts to maintain the top spots in the Southern and Northern conferences respectively.
Genesis forward Kelestah Mwawesi opened the scoring five minutes in, followed by another goal shortly after by skipper Yvonne Gabong.
From then on, it was all one-way traffic as coach Percy Mataio’s charges went on to record their second clean sheet in the country’s premier football competition for women.
“This game also give us a lot of things to improve on, basically our line of defence from the middle third and the support system that we continue to work on,” he said.
“A win is a win and we’re excited about it, we’ll enjoy this moment before going back to work on the areas that need improving.”
Gabong was presented the player of the match award by bmobile.
“I’m very happy to win the award, all of us played well,” the 24-year-old said.
“I want to thank the girls, I am very proud of their efforts which paid off on the field and we won three games so far.”
The opening match of the Southern Conference triple header saw National Capital District (NCD) beating Port Moresby Academy 4-3.
Both teams were tied 3-3 in the second half before Karen Gabi netted the winner to give NCD their first win of the season.
NCD head coach Wira Wama said he was satisfied with his team’s performance, given how hard he had worked on their attack.
Port Moresby City failed to bounce back from their 1-2 loss last week as Hekari United beat them 4-1.
Meanwhile, at the Papua New Guinea Football Association Academy outside Lae yesterday, Poro were first to score four minutes in, with Daisy Tokolik sailing the ball over the head of Gardens goalkeeper Cathy Golowa for a 1-0 lead.
Tokolik added her second goal in the 13 minute, combining with Meagan Gunemba to extend Poro’s lead to 2-0.
Then it was all one-way traffic as Poro added three more goals through Gunemba, who now has 11 goals after four rounds in the Northern Conference.
Judith Gunemba scored two goals before Poro rounded out the win with another.
In the third game of the fourth round, Sepik continued from Saturday’s 3-1 win over Tusbab Laidamon with a 6-0 crushing of Rainy Lae 6-0.
