A father and son team have travelled from Jiwaka to undertake a training course at the Small Scale Mining Training Centre in Wau on how to engage in alluvial mining activities on their land.
“We found gold at our village in Jiwaka and we learned about the school and came to undergo the training so we can return and work on our land,” Bluntz Waine said.
Waine said his son, who attended the training with him, would assist at home in alluvial mining activities. He said the skills and knowledge learnt at the training centre would help them.
“I thank all the trainers for imparting all the basic knowledge on alluvial mining activities.”
Small Scale Mining Training Centre manager Sydor Utaeo thanked the two men for learning more about the small scale mining industry.
“You have just completed level 2 and the training has, through practical lessons, equipped you enough with the basic knowledge to engage in alluvial mining activities on your land,” Utaeo said.
“There are two more levels of training to complete which will equip
you with all the basic knowledge on the small scale mining industry in PNG.”
