THE Kokonas Indastri Korporesen (KIK) management has thanked the people of East New Britain (ENB) for being part of copra production and contributing to the industry.
KIK managing director Allan Aku, during the launching of the copra price support programme last Thursday in Kokopo, said ENB was one of the biggest producers of copra in the country.
In 2019, ENB experienced a drop in copra production with only 21,000 metric tonnes.
The copra price support programme was launched by Minister for Agriculture and Livestock John Simon.
Aku said Madang had increased production to 22,000 tonnes because of the support given by MPs.
He said the copra price support programme would be a great relief to all the farmers.
“Coconut farming system is already going ahead and one classic example of this is at Tobera where we grow other crops under coconut trees,” he said.
“The farmer cannot depend on only one commodity because when one price goes down, the farmer can always support himself with other commodities.”
He thanked Kokopo MP Emil Tammur for his contribution and support towards the programme for the coconut farmers in Kokopo.
