Gerehu league to announce top-16 teams

GEREHU Offseason Rugby League president Frank Kurum says the competition’s top-16 A grade teams will be named next week.
He said the teams from ninth to 16th would play do-or-die matches while sides in the top-eight had the luxury of a second chance should they lose in round one of the playoffs.
“We had initially planned for the top-eight playoffs but there were many teams participating – total of 42,” Kurum said.
“Therefore, to be fair, we had to add another eight teams for the top-16 playoffs. From there, we can trim the number down to eight and then to four for the semifinals.”
He said the winners would proceed to the grand final.
He said the league had started its competition late.
“We don’t have ample time left to complete the games because many students taking part in the competition need to go back to school,” Kurum said. “We need to speed the process to get games done in time.”
He advised supporters and players that there was always one winner.
“Teams that did not make the top-16 are advised to come back stronger next season which starts in October.”
