Give Grand Chief a golden handshake, O’Neill

SIR Michael Somare and his small band of merrymen are either blind or refuse to accept the truth.
There were demonstrations in Western Highlands, Chimbu, Enga, Pomio (ENB) and other parts of the country calling for the Grand Chief to step down.
The people showed their frustrations by burning police cars in Enga last week.
The minority Somare camp must accept the fact that the majority of the people are supporting the O’Neill regime regardless of the Supreme Court’s ruling.
People are openly declaring their support for the O’Neill regime and denouncing the Grand Chief.
The court’s ruling is one thing but the people’s cry is another.
Defying the people’s cry poses a far greater threat to the country than the tussle for power.
If Sir Michael and his team were to succeed in taking over power, it would be a hollow victory as they do not have the people’s support.
The Grand Chief has already made a huge mistake by trying to create a rift in the police force by appointing Fred Yakasa as the acting police commissioner.
He is adding fuel to the fire and the people are shocked with his action and fed up with him.
I call on the O’Neill regime to draw up a golden handshake for Sir Michael and his group and end the impasse once and for all.
