Give our raw and talented youngsters a break

Letters, Normal

THE train-on squad for the PM’s XIII is biased. I feel many of the players selected do not deserve to be in the squad.
Why are we not giving the young and talented players who have been consistent all through the season a chance?
Players like David Loko, Jason Talil (Mioks), Sidney Fred (Bombers), Jackson Undi, Nombert Kembo and Joseph Omai (Muruks), Peter Paulus (Vipers) and Tiger Emere (Warriors) deserve to get a break.
Muruks, the minor premiers, have only one player in the team while Gurias, Lahanis, Rangers and Vipers have more than one player.
What about the other teams taking part in the bemobile Cup?
Aren’t their players Papua New Guineans too?
Are they really that useless that not even one player stands out?
What about the players from all the intercity teams?
Some of the players are just as good.
The Kumuls need raw talents instead of those old recycled players.
How many times do we want to see these players letting the team down?
There is no fire in the belly anymore.
They have let fame get into the empty space between their ears.
Why are our selectors underestimating raw talented players?
Look at Australia and New Zealand.
They stick to old players who are consistent and discard those “star players” who failed to give 100% and pick new ones.
They show trust and confidence in new untested young players.
The Four Nations tournament is the best opportunity to showcase and market our local players.
There is all the more reason to give our young local players the chance of a lifetime to extend their careers overseas.
For overseas-based players trying their luck in the feeder clubs, let them win a spot in the NRL sides before selecting them for Kumuls duty.
If they cannot impress the NRL sides, why should we select them?
