TUSBAB Stallions player Freeman Giwi has left the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) outfit to focus on his education.
Stallions coach Rachel Wadunah told The National last night that Giwi was now studying electrical engineering at the Don Bosco Technical College in Chimbu.
“He is strong defender and a humble person off the field,” she said.
“Even though Freeman is gone, he is still very much part of the Stallions.”
Giwi, whose mum and dad are from Manus and Chimbu respectively, started playing soccer when he was doing Grade 6 at Lutheran Day Primary School in Madang.
The 19-year-old played in the Gum area outside the town when Kuima FTM recruited him to play in Madang.
Although Kuima were new to the competition in 2016, they reached the final with the Kumuls, which Tusbab won.
In that same year, Giwi was selected to join camps to prepare for the 2017 Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Under-17 Championship in Tahiti under coach Harrison Kamake.
In 2018, he was recruited by Besta United and played in all their NSL matches that year.
Last season, he joined the Stallions, which is made up Tusbab Secondary School students.
This season, his last game was against Hekari United last month.
