HIGH and secondary school students from Jimi in Jiwaka will benefit from K1 million school fee subsidy this year, local MP Wake Goi says.
Goi said the subsidy would benefit grades 9 to 12.
He said education for these students would be free because he wanted to ensure more students are enrolled, educated and make their way through the education system.
Goi, the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion, said the K1 million would ease the burden on parents.
He said he has prioritised education and that will continue.
“The standard of education will improve and many will have the opportunity to make their way through,” he said.
“This funding will be used to breed better citizens.
“It is through education people realise their purpose and potential in life.”
Goi said there are many children who are at home because of school fee.
He said since he took office, his first focus was Jimi Secondary School.
He said most of the funding and resources have been spent to ensure the operation of the school continued.
“We are paying for all the cost for air transport to airlift students, teachers, staffs and food rations to the school in Kol,” Goi said.
He said the school fee subsidy will help parents to focus on meeting other areas of need of their children that would support their education.
“This means education for grades nines, 10, 11’s and 12 in Jimi Secondary School is free,” Goi said.
He said the first K250,000 of the K1 million will be paid next month.
Goi said this was his vision for education and he would continue to maintain the support.
“We are continuing to build the school to become a model school in the province,” he said.
