JIMI Secondary School in Jiwaka will remain at Kol because there are no plans to relocate it to Banz in North Waghi, Jimi, MP Wake Goi says.
Goi, who is the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion, said this in response to concerns that the only secondary school in his electorate would be relocated to Banz.
He said because there was no road link to the school, he had paid for the airfares for students, staff and food rations for the school.
He said the road from Banz to Kol was completed after it was cut-off at Wara Manz Bridge.
Goi said people would soon start using the road instead of walking to Banz and Mt Hagen.
He said plans were underway to recruit a new principal and teachers for Jimi Secondary School, some would be expatriates.
He said an expatriate nurse working at a health facility in the district would also serve the school.
“As long as I remain the MP for Jimi this school will not be relocated to anywhere because I’m looking at the long term benefits,” he said.
Goi said he wanted the school to be the best school in Jiwaka.
“We need to ensure the school will benefit our children,” he said.
