GOLD ANOMALY, a junior minerals explorer, yesterday announced that it has intersected a number of gold-bearing pyrite veins with the third hole drilled in the artisanal mining zone at the company’s flagship Crater Mountain project in Eastern Highlands province.
The best results from hole NEV026 include 1m at 16.2 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, 1m at 3.36g/t gold, and 41m at 0.68g/t gold, including 1m at 4.12g/t, 2m at 2.48g/t and 2m at 2.76g/t.
These results indicate that high grade gold veining occurred in the sulphide zone as well as the oxide zone.
The style of mineralisation and geology in NEV026 was similar to that of previous hole NEV022, with Crater Mountain shaping up to be a large scale, bulk tonnage gold deposit.
Gold Anomaly’s maiden drilling programme last July confirmed the discovery of the high grade artisanal mining zone, which complemented the gold mineralisation in the main zone.
At the Main Zone, hole NEV027 was underway, at a depth of 1,054m in sediments consistent with a porphyry system at depth.
Hole NEV029 is at 390m depth and has intersected similar style mineralisation and alteration to that seen in other holes drilled into the mixing zone.
Gold Anamoly is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange and is a company exploring and developing gold and base metal deposits in PNG, Brazil and Australia.
The company has three exploration projects in PNG.
They are; Crater Mountain, Fergusson Island in Milne Bay and Bogia in Madang province.
The company said yesterday its  Crater Mountain project was “a potential multi-million ounce gold deposit located in the highlands of PNG”.
