BINTANGOR Trading managing director Simon Sia is the latest person to give money for the 28th Lutheran church synod last weekend.
While presenting K10,000 last weekend, Sia said the synod was an important event on the Evangelical Lutheran church calendar.
He said for Goroka and, importantly, the Eastern Highlands to host the event was a milestone for the church and the province.
“I am making this contribution of K10,000 on behalf of Bintangor Trading and the mighty Bintangor Lahanis,” Sia said.
He said the money would be used to buy 250 bags of 20kg rice and 100 T-shirts.
Synod planning committee executive officer Eddie Bowoku thanked Sia on behalf of the committee and the Lutheran congregation in Eastern Highlands.
Bowoku said they had written to many business houses in the province for help to stage the synod.
“Bintangor Trading has come good with K10,000 to assist us, and we are grateful and appreciative of the help,” he said.
Bowoku said other companies had not responded, with only the Coffee Industry Corporation and Coffee Connections being the two other organisations that had responded.
He did not disclose how much or what they had contributed.
Bowoku said Bintangor Trading was leading by example.
“It is the official sponsor of our proud rugby league champion team, the mighty Bintangor Lahanis,” he said.
The presentation was witnessed by planning committee members Himony Lapiso and Gahuku Lutheran Parish leader Apere Goso.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on Sundat opened the synod in Goroka before a colourfully decorated National Park, near the Goroka main market.
