The Goroka Netball Association (GNA) is looking forward to competing at the national championships in Lae next week.
Formed in 2010, the association said in a statement that its aim was to empower women and girls through netball.
“Most of the members are girls,” the association said.
“GNA is a not-for-profit organisation and is solely operated by those individuals who have an interest in sports, particularly netball.
“It is anticipated that GNA will continue to grow as a popular sport, not just among women and girls but also males who wish to support netball and choose the sport as a fitness tool.
“Netball is regarded as a popular sport in the Southern region.
“Over the years, the interest in netball has grown in the region, including Eastern Highlands.” The association said netball was not just regarded as sport but a social event for women and girls.
“It is considered an alternate avenue for women and girls from different walks of life to gather and discuss issues that affect them.”
