THE Goroka Show over the independence anniversary weekend at the National Sports Institute was an experience of a lifetime, two French tourists say.
So much so that both want to be back for more.
The first timers to the Eastern Highlands capital, Beatrice and Sylvia, are divers by profession and decided to visit the Goroka Show after checking out diving sites in Tufi (Northern) and Alotau (Milne bay)
Both said they visited Papua New Guinea regularly to dive but it was their first time to take a trip up to the Highlands region to witness the much-talked-about Goroka Show.
“We’ve always heard wonderful stories about the Goroka Show, so we didn’t want to miss out,” Sylvia said.
“All I can say is that it’s amazing.
“We were fascinated just by seeing all these different traditional dances and their attires, they are so colourful and welcoming.”
Beatrice said: “I will have to come again.”
“I think when I go back to Lyon (France) I will show all these pictures and tell them of the wonders of the Goroka Show.
“We will share the experience with others in our country so they can come here to experience what it’s like because it’s definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
The Goroka Show for years has been a tourist attraction where many people from all over the country and abroad turn up in numbers to witness.
Apart from traditional dancing, this year’s show had a lot of arts and crafts from all over the Highlands and Mamose region.
Musicians such as Augustine Emil, Shydeez and Silas Kania entertained the crowd.
