STUDENTS from the Tembari Elementary School at ATS in Port Moresby had a pleasant surprise on Saturday when the Justice Crew band visited.
The occasion was an event in which charity groups from Kina Bank, Mintt smart phones, Nippon Paint and Trophy Haus were helping orphans.
Danny Robinson, the executive general manager of Kina Bank, told The National that they were trying to help a number of orphaned children in the community and help educate more than 350 children up to primary level.
“The network is to get involved with the local community (#pride) and help out,” Robinson said.
“We brought about 25 volunteers from Kina Bank and another 40 from Mintt, we also brought Justice Crew to entertain the kids and give them caps, T-shirts and also do sausage sizzle for the kids,” Robinson said. Hayward Sagembo, the founder of Tembari Elementary School, said this was an early childhood programme, which was a charity-based organisation.
“We want to look after orphans and raise them till they reach 16 years of old,” he said.
Sagembo said they also conducted literacy training for young women and mothers who were having issues with marriage and in life.
He said he was happy with partner organisations sharing maintenance work like painting, fixing and patching floor tiles, providing water and installing light bulbs at the school.
He said a double classroom plus ablution blocks were funded by Prime Minister Peter O’Neil for K320,000 in 2015 but needed some maintenance for the final touch, which interests were shown by his partner organisations.
