GOROKA aims to produce many educated persons to enhance development initiatives established in rural village communities, says Joe Seteri, the executive officer to Goroka MP Aiye Tambua.
Seteri told students from Goroka district attending Goroka Business College that Tambua subsidised school fees for students from the district attending colleges and universities as part of human capital development for the district.
He said when there are many educated elites in village communities there will be peace and harmony as they will build permanent houses, help to bring in water supplies and electricity and helped to enhance services coming to the people.
“Goroka Business College is the first we will visit to deliver the bank deposit receipt of K95,000. The 95 Goroka students at the college are receiving K1,000 each topping up on their school fees,” Seteri said.
He urged the students to study hard to achieve good academic results and make use of the district subsidy scheme as the program will continue until 2027.
“There is no bias as the money belongs to the people of Goroka district meaning regardless of your affiliations during election period, everyone is getting equal shares,” Seteri said.
He said similar assistance is given to all the students from Goroka district attending other colleges, universities and private institutions around the country.
Jonathan Uve, from Gahuku who attented the presentation, urged the students to commit their time to studies and avoid negative behavior.
President of Goroka Students Association at Goroka Business College, Aitapo Akuvo, acknowledged the support from Tambua.
