Government bonds, reform gain support

TREASURER Ian Ling-Stuckey has told Parliament that support for Government bonds and reform programme are gaining support, with cash starting to flow.
Ling-Stuckey said warrants were released for the K600 million in financing and cash were sourced from the net proceeds of the bonds, and international assistance.
He said K45 million had been allocated to the Health Department with another K30 million waiting for a detailed budget.
Police will receive K30 million of the K60 million allocated to the security services to strengthen law and order and to defend PNG’s borders.
He said K35 million of the K73 million allocated to the Defence Force was to build 10 border posts.
Another K15 million is for the Department of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Trade to strengthen PNG’s foreign missions.
The other allocations are:

  • K111 million to support agricultural development and food security, with each district and province receiving K1 million each;
  • K44.5 million to support rural micro, small to medium enterprise and families, enabling districts to undertake activities such as market improvements and small business training; and,
  • K33.3 million for water, sanitation and hygiene (Wash) programmes.
