NEWLY-elected Menyamya MP Benjamin Philip wants the Government to help him build a road connecting his district to Bulolo.
Presenting his maiden speech in Parliament on Friday, he said his district was vast with many mountainous regions and rivers.
“Menyamya has a huge potential for agriculture but it is difficult to build roads in the district,” he said.
“At the moment there are no good road links between Lae, Bulolo, and Menyamya.
“Menyamya has a population of more than 87,000 and it is over 250km from Lae city, which is very far.
“The highway between Lae, Bulolo and Menyamya that was built in 1987 continues to deteriorate because of frequent rain.”
Philip said most of his district funds were used to maintain the highway over the years.
“Between 2007 and 2017, the Menyamya district development authority used more than K20 million to maintain this highway,” he said.

  • Dear Mr.Benjamin Philip, you supposed build this very road when you were the MP for the last 10 years?????nau tasol skin guria na tok lo mekim road,SHAME ON YOU…

  • where has the K20 million gone to. Mr Benjamin. you just have to go there and see for your self the state of this road. there is nothing to show for in the K20 million you talking about. if a million kina been spent on the road in the last 2 years, there would be some sign in place of road development. Mr Philip, you should be true to yourself and the people of Menyamya and start spending wisely.
