FINANCE Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan says public servants should not have an issue with their salaries until the Government accounts reopen on January 4.

Ngangan said this might be a tough time for the country economically but the Government had committed funds to pay public servants their salaries.

He was responding to the late payment of salaries to some public servants late last week, plus the entitlements and leave fares for teachers who are starting their Christmas holidays.

Ngangan said: “Tough times but we are managing tightly. Whatever little money that is coming in in December, we have committed for two or three payrolls already.

“Payroll is a priority, there could be some delays but payroll is our priority.

“On teachers’ entitlements and leave fares, that’s up to each of the department and agency funding for that which gets warranted to them.

“It’s the Education Department and provinces. They should plan ahead – who is going on leave and organise.”
