THE Department of Information and Communication Technology will establish and maintain an electronic data register for government bodies to save their information.
Information and Communication Technology Minister Timothy Masiu said this would be in line with Section 51 of the Digital Government Act of 2022.
“Section 28 of the Digital Government Act, requires the Department of Information and Communications Technology to establish and manage the government’s central electronic data repository to which all public bodies are required to back up all electronic data within the Central Electronic Data Repository within one year on the date of its establishment,” he said.
Masiu said electronic data referred to data entered into an electronic device to be processed, generated, sent, received, stored or shared using a system or device for the purposes of enabling the delivery of digital services.
It includes any representation of facts, concepts, and information in the form of texts, images, audio, video, multimedia files and machine-readable code or instructions.
“All public bodies are hereby advised to work closely with the department in implementing these critical mandates.”
Masiu said his ministry was responsible for facilitating implementation of the Digital Government Act which came into force on Aug 8.
