Industry shocked over bungle

The PNG Poultry Industry Association is “shocked by the bureaucratic bungle” resulting in the closure of Nadzab and Kiunga airports.
Association president Stanley Leahy said poultry was PNG’s largest livestock industry, sustaining one of the country’s biggest small-medium enterprises (SME) sectors.
“Tens of thousands of SME farmers rely on poultry as an important part of their food security and income,” he said. “Nadzab’s abrupt closure has severed the day-old-chicken supply chain from commercial producers to hundreds of SME poultry farmers without road access to Lae.
“If the airport closures persist, it will disrupt the supply of breeding flocks to our largest commercial poultry producers.
“This potentially has long-term ramifications for poultry production throughout PNG.
“Will Casa or the NAC compensate PNG farmers for losses directly resulting from their internal dispute?”
