EAST New Britain (ENB) Governor Nakikus Konga visited provincial government projects in Toma-Vunadidir local level government (LLG) wards on Wednesday.
The projects included the two-kilometre road from Tagitagi No.2 to Wairiki No.1 which is underway and is co-funded by the East New Britain service improvement programme with K1 million and K1 million from the Gazelle service improvement programme.
Konga wanted to see the progress of work.
He was pleased with the contractor and with the engagement of local youths working on the drainage.
The current roadwork stopped at Wairiki No.1, however, Konga said it would continue to Wairiki No.2 (to Wairiki Primary School) with an additional K1 million that his government would provide.
Konga also visited the Paparatava hospital at Varzin along the main Kokopo – Toma-Kerevat road of which phase two is currently under construction.
He said K1.5 million had been allocated in the 2021 provincial budget for the completion of phase three.
Konga said the budget for this year was focused on the wards and the LLGs and he was visiting the electorate to see first-hand the progress of the projects.
“This hospital is important as it was not only influenced by limited space for expansion but to improve accessibility to a greater population in the Toma area,” he said.
Konga said the ENB government’s priority was health and education and such projects needed to be supported and completed.
