NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop has backed Mendi to host Papua New Guinea Games successfully this year.
Parkop said at the launch of Southern Highlands Hope Cup rugby league match on Wednesday that people of Mendi were peace loving and that the upcoming 7th PNG Games would be a good memory for all athletes.
He said he initiated the Hope Cup match between Port Moresby Vipers and Mendi Muruks to promote peace in the province and part of the whole purpose of it was to give confidence to the country that provincial capital of Mendi can host the much anticipated national sporting event.
“This initiative (Hope Cup) is to show the people of this country that Mendi can host the PNG Games.
“If you go to Mendi you will find that the people are very friendly.
“They will receive you, they will host you, the hospitality there is very high, and they’ll slaughter pigs and make mumu for you. I want to join PNG Sports Foundation and encourage all our people from the coast, to the islands and all around PNG not to have doubts.
“I want to encourage all athletes and the officials to prepare well and gear up to celebrate a nice sporting event that will be hosted in Mendi.”
