THE Laurabada volleyball tournament in Hanuabada ended on a high note on Saturday with locals packed to watch the finals.
The women’s division finals saw Milk defeating Taora three sets to two while in the men’s final, Wanpis beat Broggies winning three straight sets.
Milk and Wanpis received trophies and K1,000 cash prize while runners-up Taora and Broggies were given K600 and trophies.
The four-day tournament attracted 32 teams and achieved its aim of bringing people together.
The grand final player of the match prize was given to Filo Kapa from Wanpis, a team from Vanama, while Taurabamo’s Tai Oala received the player-of-the-tournament award.
Being the first time for the community to host the tournament, they received support from sponsors Leon Hardware, Motu Koita Assembly chairman Dadi Toka Jr and local councilor Rarua Dikana.
“The aim was to bring the youths out to participate in the tournament and people responded well, even the parents families came out to support,” Dikana said.
“It’s good to have the community come together in unity before the year kicks in and everyone will be occupied with their own things.”
The 32 teams that participated were from Poreporena Laurabada as well as nearby communities, Vanama and Ranuguri.
Dikana was impressed with the outcome of the competition and said he was looking forward to the next tournament in 2022.
