SCHOOLS in Morobe have been challenged by Governor Ginson Saonu to come up with new innovations and inventions to showcase at the inter-school exhibition next year.
Saonu said K50,000 from the K500,000 committed to hosting the annual show next year would be presented to the individual or student group that developed a device that addressed a challenge faced in the province.
Saonu said this during the presentation of awards to the 15 schools that participated in the show last month.
He added that the exhibition needed to be a platform to make history for the province.
“We can create a science agenda from this event,” he said.
“Students must take creativity and innovation seriously. We need an educated population to bring us to greater heights.
“Such an exposure should broaden students’ knowledge.”
Saonu, whose government has supported education reform, said people were the most valuable resource.
He said it was his government’s responsibility to create a positive mindset in the young generation who would in turn push development.
Christopher Raymond, the chairman of the head teachers and principals conference said his circle also pushed to promote policies and interventions that would promote learning for students in Morobe.
He thanked the exhibition committee for a successful two-day event and hoped for a bigger event next year with the backing of the provincial government.
