MADANG Governor Peter Yama visited Usino-Bundi on Monday to assess the state of the Banu-Bundi road that connects much of the district’s population to Madang town.
Usino-Bundi is one of Madang’s most isolated districts with basic Government services not reaching the people and road access a priority to open the three local level government areas of Bundi, Usino and Gama to development.
Yama’s visit was to check on the progress of work and to speak to locals.
According to the governor’s office, K4 million was allocated for the upgrade after assessments of the road.
Yama said the poor state of the road had badly affected people in terms of service delivery and for the people to access services outside their district.
He was accompanied by acting provincial administrator Clement Tare and other officials.
Yama said the Banu-Bundi road would also connect Madang to the Highlands through Gembogl in Chimbu. “When completed, it will provide an optional link for road users between Madang and other coastal provinces with some of the Highlands provinces,” he said.
Meanwhile, contractor R&R Sons Civil Contractors has assembled its earthmoving machinery at Banu to start the road upgrading.
