Governor’s Cup moved

THIS year’s edition of the National Capital District (NCD) Governor’s Cup has been postponed to next month following a decision from the organising committee over concern around public gatherings.
Tournament director Simon Nuabo said the event was postponed to early January.
He said the committee was still working with the Office of the National Pandemic Response Controller to secure approval with registrations still open for interested teams.
Meanwhile, Nuabo urged more community-based teams to be part of the Cup with more emphasis on local talents from the suburbs.
He said teams scouting and paying players from different suburbs or elite competitions like the Digicel Cup to play for their clubs would be penalised.
“The Governor’s Cup will continue to be a platform to create opportunities for raw talents in suburbs, settlements and villages in the city,” the tournament’s director said.
“This is the vision of patron and Governor Powes Parkop.
“Therefore, teams who are interested to participate in this annual tournament should be community-based sides promoting players from their suburbs, settlements and villages in NCD. Teams collecting players from all around the city to participate will not be entertained.
“I am kindly requesting you all to support this tournament to promote rugby league.
“Our theme for this year is creating avenue for future stars.
“Let us all work together to achieve it.”
