Govt confident and intact: PM

PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill says the Government coalition is confident it has the numbers to continue to govern for the remainder of the 10th parliamentary term.
O’Neill, in a statement yesterday, said as mandated by the people of PNG during the 2017 general election, the Government coalition remained intact. “At present we have more than 60 Members of Parliament together as part of our Government. Coalition MPs are very much intact and supportive of the Government led by the People’s National Congress Party,” he said.
“The legislation passed by the Morauta government has stabilised two governments over four teams of parliament, and we anticipate this to continue.”
O’Neill said the stability had come under threat because of the ambitions of some self-interested individuals who had not clearly outlined their policies to the nation over the past 20 months in any way shape or form. “This is in clear contrast to the policies that have been and continue to be delivered by the PNC-led Government coalition,” he said.
“The attempt to destabilise a duly-mandated government through threats, intimidation and fake news through social media is now taking place in this country. I urge all Papua New Guineans to refrain from partaking in this illegal attempt to bring down a properly mandated government.”
O’Neill said it was disappointing to see the National Alliance Party “vigorously encouraging behind-the-scene activities to destabilise political parties”.
