THE Government is working with donor partners to develop talents for the aviation sector.
Civil Aviation Minister Davis Steven (pictured) highlighted this last week during the third aviation conference in Kokopo.
He said the Government was working with the Civil Aviation Development Investment Programme (Cadip), a funding arrangement under the Asian Development Bank and Government to improve aviation sector to develop talent.
Steven said skills requirement would keep changing and the need for new competencies would help the sector make the most of new technologies.
The next generation of aviation professionals are the key driver for innovation technologies and to sustain safety and sustainability of the civil aviation. Steven said overall the human capital for the aviation sector must be developed.
“The emerging challenge for PNG and across the globe is the need for the aviation community to address the shortage of aviation professionals and improve quality in training.”
He was advised that the International Civil Aviation Organisation (Icao) has worked tirelessly through technical cooperation programmes such as its “no country left behind” initiative to promote capability development, particularly among regulatory agencies to facilitate implementation of its standards.
Steven said the Government and the private sector must work together to ensure that the aviation workforces were suitably skilled to meet current and future needs.
He said partnership between all stakeholders would reduce capacity issues and improve efficiency in airspace and airports.
