Govt not doing enough to get rid of corruption

Letters

OUR Government, under Prime Minister James Marape, is doing less to fight corruption.
All it does is preach about fighting corruption through the Independent Commission Against Corruption (Icac) and the recently-announced wealth declaration law, which is to do away with personal wealth accumulation at the expense of the suffering population through usage of public resources.
To date, the Government has done little to nothing to support these bodies to be functional in fighting corruption.
The Government’s actions are contradictory to what it is preaching.
A good example is the non-tabling of the audit report of the Covid-19 spending to Parliament, which Justice Minister and Madang MP Bryan Kramer was preaching about last year.
It has now become a thing of the past.
Most of the monies spent were not accounted for and the National Pandemic Response Controller David Manning knows little to nothing about these expenditures.
Icac does not have an office to operate in and lacks other resources to be functional.
It seems the Government is doing all it can to promote selfish interests of a selected few in the corridors of Waigani.
This prompts us to question whether the Government is fighting corruption or promoting it.
People are losing confidence in the Government.
Its mantra of “Taking back PNG” and making it the richest black nation will not be achieved if such practices continue.
