PUBLIC servants operating at the Madang district government office have been issued eviction notices after health authorities condemned the building.
Madang town manager Philip Posanau issued the eviction notice to the Madang district acting administrator Gabriel Saul last week.
Posanau said in his letter that officers occupying adminstration building two should vacate the office within two weeks.
He said that was because there was no further improvement done to correct the structural and septic tank defects in the building and it was now a health hazard and unfit for human habitation.
“This building is condemned under Part 2-general sanitary provisions section 10, 11, 12 and 13 of the Public Health Sanitation and General
Regulation chapter 226,” Posanau said.
The offices affected were the Lands office, commerce, health programme manager’s office, budget office, district officer’s office, chief executive’s office, district health extension, district environmental health, Artisan, support staff office, programme manager Works’ office and the assistant district administrator’s office.
The second phase of the eviction exercise to building one would be done later.
Saul, in a letter to Madang MP Bryan Kramer, requested for K50,000 from the Madang district development authority to correct and replace the septic tank, fix the leaking roof and rotten floors and walls.
He said he was instructed by Kramer to move the offices to the already crowded provincial AIDS Council office.
Saul said Kramer’s electoral staff and health officers were now using the ground floor of the provincial AIDS Council office.
He said arrangements were made for other staff to move to the provincial headquarters and other locations, including the Didiman Stations, health clinics and the front space of his own office.
“The septic tank is not cleaned and replaced with approved septic structure for the office buildings and I may be the next to be evicted. What a shame,” Saul said.
