FOUR check-points have been done so far at the main highway in the Central Gazelle local level government (LLG) area of Gazelle, East New Britain (ENB).
The check-points were set up on Monday by traffic officers from Kerevat as well as LLG officers.
According to Central Gazelle LLG manager Gerard Melodi, officers from the LLG assisted police with the operation.
Melodi said check-points were conducted because most public motor vehicle (PMV) operators in the LLG had failed to turn up at the LLG office to pay their route fees before taking to the road.
He said the PMV operations were done in targeted areas and it was one of the LLG’s annual programmes to collect revenue from PMVs operating in and out of Central Gazelle.
“So far, fees have been collected from PMV operating routes 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D and 4E including other PMVs from other LLGs travelling into Central Gazelle,” he said. Melodi said K250 was the route fee charged and some drivers had their licences taken off them for non-compliance as they had not paid.
