Govt plans to set up trade office

THE Government plans establish a National Trade Office, says National Planning and Monitoring Minister Richard Maru.
“This is to ensure that we have a dedicated trade office that will focus on building capacity and building trade personnel within our government system and the private sector,” he said.
“This will make us more competitive in the global market.”
He said the Government would continue to develop products of high standard to help develop the economy through exports.
Maru said it was why the Government was going to secure loans for the Pacific Maritime Industrial Zone (PMIZ) in Madang to build 10 processing plants.
“This will then ensure that PNG has the capacity to downstream all fish caught in PNG waters.”
He said the jobs created should be filled by citizens to help employ school leavers unable to find work.
“One of the best ways to create opportunities for these graduates is to go into downstream processing,” Maru said.
He attended the commissioning of the Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometery (ICP-MS) and a Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometery GC-MS) machines at the National Analytical Testing Services Limited laboratory at Unitech on Friday.
