Govt signs K212mil deal for upgrade of airports

A K212 million contract for the upgrade of five airports in the country was signed yesterday by the Government and contractors.
The Civil Aviation Development Investment Programme (Cadip) covers airports upgrades for Madang (K77.5 million), Wewak (K50.9 million), Wapenamanda (K38.56 million), Vanimo (K35.94 million) and standby power upgrade for Tokua and Nadzab (K9.32 million).
The signing was witnessed by leaders including Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer Charles Abel, National Planning and Monitoring Minister Richard Maru, Police Minister Jelta Wong, Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas and West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou.
“PNG is a flying country,” Civil Aviation Minister Alfred Manase said.
“That is the fact that we will always live with until we are able to connect some of our rural areas by road.” The contractors are:

  • Madang aircraft pavement upgrading, new terminal and associated works: HBS (PNG) Ltd & ESSAR projects (PNG) Ltd Joint Venture (HBS ESSAR JV)
  • Wewak runway extension, new terminal building and associated works: China Shenyang International Economic & Technical Corporation Ltd.
  • Wapenamanda aircraft pavement upgrade, new terminal and associated works: Lorma-Socor Joint Venture
  • Vanimo Airport runway extension, new terminal and associated works: China Railway Construction Engineering Group Co Ltd.
  • Standby power upgrade for Tokua and Nadzab: G-Man Construction Ltd.
