Govt to support churches, schools

PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has committed to work with churches and maintain free education.
He thanked the churches for their commitment and support during the opening of the new Georita Memorial Church 2, in Maopa village last Friday.
“Churches are important in our communities throughout the country,” O’Neill said.
“The churches kept our communities together since independence.
They have reached places the government cannot and provided services the government could not.
“That is why when this current government came into power in 2012, we made a commitment to work closely with the churches.”
O’Neill said the Government would continue to work with the churches.
“Transferring money directly into districts through DSIP funds is working for many districts throughout the country and people are seeing changes.
“Our government is in its fifth year and we are changing Papua New Guinea.
“I was not born in the city, I was not born in some provincial town, I was born in a village like every one of you.
“So I know the sacrifice of our people that you have to make every day.”
O’Neill said education is the right of our children.
“School is no longer a privilege, it is a right of all PNG children.”
