THE government is amending the education reform to reduce the number of Grade 12 school leavers on the streets, an official says.

Higher Education Minister David Arore (pictured) made this statement last Friday at the 43rd Graduation ceremony for the International Training Institute (ITI) in Port Moresby.

He said the major problem was the lack of spaces available for school leavers to continue on to tertiary education and the new reform would look at ways to minimise that by establishing more higher education institutions.

Arore encouraged the students to set out their mind and achieve their dreams through commitments.

“When you set your goal, do not back down, go out there and make it happen,” he said.

“You don’t need to be very intelligent to get to the top.”

He said most of today’s elites in society were just average students in class but made their way up through commitment and self-perseverance and encouraged them to aim high.

The ceremony saw 290 students graduating with certificates and degrees in the field of business, office management and information technology, fourteen of them from the Northern under the Ijivitari sponsorship.
