WEWAK MP Jim Simatab has committed K55,000 to two schools in his district this week to help improve the their infrastructure.

Mandi Primary School, on the east coast of Wewak, will get K50,000 and Yawasoro Central Elementary, on the west, pick up  K5,000 to put finishing touches to a new classroom in preparation for next year.

Speaking at the graduation of Yawasoro Central Elementary last week, Simatab’s executive officer Alois Walsamis said the two cheques would be ready for presentation by Simatab next week after he returned from parliament in Port Moresby.

A total of 34 elementary two students graduated with certificates and will advance to Grade 3 at the Yawasoro Central Primary School next year.

Walsamis said the district was focused on improving existing infrastructure and developing new ones in all schools throughout the electorate so that the environment became conducive for children’s learning.

Mandi primary, one of the oldest schools in the district, is planning its expansion next year and the money would complement the project fees it collects to put up new classrooms and teachers’ houses according to its school learning improvement plan (SLIP) programme.
